Textkomposition and Minimalism

Textkomposition. Stockhausen - Aus den sieben Tagen . Compositions involving only text (instructions or poems) written between May 7-13 1968.

Minimalism: commercial nowdays, it started in the early to mid '60s as a honest, experimental attempt to be very economical and look at the essential ingredients of music and art in general. LaMonte Young's compositions Compositions 1960 (# 7) as well as Steve Reich - Four Organs and Terry Riley - In C are good examples. In a way Stimmung by Stockhausen gets close to the same idea by using only a dominant ninth chord in the entire hourlong piece. Another famous early Reich work is Pendulum Music
