COMPUTER-ASSISTED COMPOSITION


The course includes a critical view of various approaches to Computer-assisted Composition as well as to the aesthetics of computer music. A detailed description of DISCO (a computer program for music composition and sound synthesis designed by Sever Tipei) will follow.

Students will have access to the Experimental Music Studios of the University of Illinois Computer Music Project equipment and software. The use of the synthesis software, part of DISCO (a Digital Instrument for Sonification and COmposition) will be encouraged. Knowledge of C++ programming is useful.
